The Lagos State Police Command has successfully neutralised a security threat directed at two prominent private schools in Ikeja, following a swift, intelligence-driven response led personally by the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the schools’ Human Resources Manager and Chief Security Officer separately reported to the Ikeja Divisional Headquarters on Tuesday, January 21, 2026, after receiving distress messages via WhatsApp from the same unknown phone number at about 4:00 p.m.
“Upon receipt of the reports, the Commissioner of Police immediately mobilised and personally led a team of police operatives to the school premises for on-the-spot assessment and security reinforcement,” the statement said.
The police team comprised experts from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal, Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (EOD-CBRN) Unit, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), alongside other tactical units of the Command.
Ikeja Schools Declared Safe as Police Intensify Investigation
A comprehensive security sweep was conducted across the entire school environment, including classrooms, administrative offices, halls, playgrounds, and surrounding areas, to rule out the presence of improvised explosive devices or other dangerous materials.
“The painstaking operation yielded no explosive or hazardous device,” the police said, adding that the schools were subsequently declared safe for continued academic and administrative activities.
Following the operation, CP Jimoh ordered an intensified investigation aimed at tracing and apprehending the sender or senders of the threat messages, with a view to prosecuting them in accordance with the law.
Meanwhile, combined teams of police personnel have been strategically deployed on a permanent basis to the affected schools to ensure round-the-clock security for students, staff, and school facilities.
Reassuring parents, guardians, and the general public, the Lagos State Police Command said it remains “proactive, responsive, and fully committed to maintaining peace, safety, and public order across the state.”
