The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered firearms and ammunition during separate intelligence-led operations in Ajegunle and Ojo areas of the state.
AAccording to a statement on Wednessday, by SP Abimbola Adebisi, Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command. The first arrest followed credible intelligence reports about suspected hoodlums operating in Ajegunle, allegedly using commercial motorcycles while armed with dangerous weapons to rob unsuspecting members of the public.
Acting on the information, operatives of the Command Tactical Team, Thunder Blast, were immediately deployed to the area.
The operation led to the arrest of a 27-year-old suspect, Waheed Orelope. During preliminary investigations, the police recovered “one locally made pistol and two live cartridges” from the suspect.
Police Arrest Second Suspect in Ojo Operation
In a similar operation in Ojo, police surveillance teams were deployed to the Iyana Iba Under Bridge area following reports that hoodlums had taken over the location, posing a serious threat to commuters and residents. The operation resulted in the arrest of Wasiu Shonibare, aged 29.
“One locally made pistol was recovered from the suspect,” the Command disclosed, noting that the arrest was carried out by the Surveillance Team of the Ojo Division.
Both suspects are currently in police custody, while investigations are ongoing to determine their level of involvement and identify other members of the suspected criminal gang. The police assured that further updates would be made available as investigations progress.
Reaffirming the Command’s stance on security, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, said the police remain committed to proactive policing and the protection of lives and property across Lagos State.
