As part of preparations for the official launch of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU ), the Lagos State Police Command has taken delivery of new operational equipment from the Lagos State Security trust Fund (LSSTF)
It was reported in a press statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Ikeja SP Abimbola Adebisi that the handover took place on 16th May 2026 at the Command Headquarters in Ikeja.
It was also disclosed that the equipment is intended to strengthen the unit’s capacity for crime prevention and rapid response across the state. Equipments presented by LSSTF includes –
2 operational vehicles
50 ballistic helmets
50 bulletproof vests
50 ballistic shields
According to the Command, the gear is meant to enhance the safety, mobility, and operational effectiveness of VCRU personnel deployed to tackle violent crimes and emergencies in. the metropolis
LSSTF Reaffirms Commitment to Strengthening Security Agencies in Lagos
Presenting the assets on behalf of LSSTF, Executive Secretary Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan stated that the Lagos State Security Trust Fund remains committed to supporting security agencies in Lagos through the provision of critical equipment and logistics. He noted that the intervention aligns with the state ongoing investment in public safety and efficient policing.
Receiving the items, Commissioner of Police CP Tijani Fatai, psc, expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government and LSSTF for their sustained support.
“The support will significantly boost the operational readiness of the Violent Crime Response Unit and further enhance the Command’s capacity in combating violent crimes, ensuring rapid response to emergencies, and safeguarding lives and property across Lagos State,” CP Fatai said.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive crime prevention and effective policing in line with the reform agenda of the Nigeria Police Force under Inspector-General of Police IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM.
With the deployment of the new equipment, the Lagos State Police Command declare it is better positioned to operationalize the VCRU and respond swiftly to violent incidents across the metropolis. The initiative underscores the state’s continued investment in modern policing and reflects the broader reform drive of the Nigeria Police Force to enhance public safety and build public trust.
