The Lagos State Police Command has arrested two suspected armed robbers and recovered a locally made cut-to-size Danne gun along with three live cartridges during a crime prevention patrol in the Odogunyan area of the state.
The Command disclosed that the suspects were apprehended by its operatives working in collaboration with members of a local vigilante group as part of ongoing efforts to combat crime and criminality across Lagos State.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the suspects attempted to flee after sighting the security team during the patrol operation.
“The operatives intercepted the two suspects, who were carrying a handbag and attempted to flee upon sighting the security team. They were swiftly apprehended, and a search conducted on the handbag in their possession led to the recovery of one locally made cut-to-size Danne gun and three live cartridges,” the statement read.
Suspect Identified, Police Vow Prosecution
The police identified the suspects as Arowolo Damilola, 32, and Adewale Adeyinka, 29. According to the Command, both men are currently in police custody and are assisting investigators with ongoing inquiries.
The statement added that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
Commenting on the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, commended the operatives and members of the local vigilante group for their vigilance, prompt response, and collaboration, noting that their efforts led to the successful arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the firearm.
“He reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents of Lagos State and warned criminal elements to desist from all forms of criminal activities or face the full weight of the law,” the statement added.
The Lagos State Police Command also urged residents to remain security conscious and report suspicious activities through its emergency response lines as it continues efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
