About 200 teachers and heads of public primary and secondary schools from across Osun State have taken part in a digital literacy and connectivity programme organized by the state government. The initiative aims to enhance educational access through improved digital skills and infrastructure.
The programme was organized in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) and IHS Nigeria Limited, a telecommunication infrastructure company. As part of the initiative, each of the 100 participating schools received a router equipped with unlimited data to support digital learning.
At the opening session held in Ede, Osun State, the Permanent Secretary of the Osun State Ministry of Education, Mr. M. Jimoh, explained that the participants included teachers, principals, and head teachers selected from 40 public primary schools and 60 secondary schools across the state.
Mr. Jimoh praised the state governor, Ademola Adeleke, for his support of the training and encouraged school administrators to maximize the benefits of the programme. “200 teachers and heads of primary and secondary schools in the state are participating in this training. After the exercise, the participating schools numbering 100 will get internet facility and unlimited data. Ensure that the gadgets are used to benefit your pupils and impact knowledge,” he said.

Speaking earlier on the motivation behind the training, the Director of Sustainability at IHS Nigeria Limited, represented by Tolulope Oyenuga, highlighted the company’s commitment to creating meaningful social impact by bridging the digital divide and supporting grassroots education.
“Through this program, and in partnership with UNICEF as the program partner, we are not only connecting schools to reliable digital infrastructure, but also enabling access to the Nigeria Learning Passport (NLP)—a powerful e-learning platform that equips both teachers and students with quality resources for continuous learning,” she said.
Ms. Oyenuga also noted the crucial role of Focus Teens Foundation, the last-mile implementing partner responsible for ensuring the successful deployment of connectivity solutions and digital literacy training directly to schools most in need.
“In today’s world, digital literacy is not a luxury, it is a necessity. By providing access to these tools, we are helping students acquire skills that will empower them to participate actively in tomorrow’s economy,” she concluded.
