Nigeria has secured the hosting rights for the 2028 International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Africa Championships after defeating Tunisia in a vote at the ITTF Africa Annual General Meeting in Tangier, Morocco.

The contest between both countries was settled through a ballot involving 38 accredited voters, comprising 31 delegates who voted in person and seven who participated by proxy. Nigeria received 23 votes, while Tunisia secured 15.

The President of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, Adesoji Tayo, expressed appreciation to the delegates for choosing Nigeria and pledged to deliver a successful tournament in Lagos.

Tayo said the country was prepared to organise a world-class competition, drawing on its experience in hosting major international table tennis events. He also expressed confidence that the championship would attract visitors and further promote the sport across the continent.

Nigeria will also host the African Para Table Tennis Championships in 2027, giving the country two consecutive opportunities to stage major continental table tennis competitions.

Other hosting arrangements for 2027 include Libya for the Cup, Algeria for the Championships and Botswana for the Youth event.

For 2028, Rwanda has been selected to host the Youth event, while Egypt will stage the Para Championships. A host for the 2028 Cup is yet to be announced.
