Police Arrest Three Suspected Cultists, Recover Firearms in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of the Aiye Confraternity during an intelligence-led operation in Imota, recovering firearms, ammunition and other dangerous weapons.

The operation, carried out based on credible information from members of the public, targeted the activities of suspected cultists operating in the Imota area of Lagos State.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, SP Abimbola Adebisi, operatives stormed the location after receiving actionable intelligence and arrested three suspects identified as Jelili Adeyemo, 37, Bisoye Adewale, 42, and John Okeafo, 60.

Police described Adeyemo as the alleged armourer of the group.

Firearms Recovered from Suspected Cultists

During the operation, officers recovered one Beretta pistol, one locally made pistol, seven Dane guns, 10 live cartridges, seven expended cartridges, one stun gun, two handcuffs, four cutlasses and other exhibits believed to be linked to the suspects’ activities.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the three suspects are allegedly members of the Aiye Confraternity, a notorious cult group. The Command further disclosed that the recovered Beretta pistol is believed to belong to a wanted cultist identified only as “Mayibone,” who remains at large.

The suspects have since been arraigned before a competent court and remanded in custody, while police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang and recover additional firearms and weapons.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating cultism and other violent crimes across the state.

He urged residents to continue supporting the police by providing timely and credible information that would aid ongoing crime-fighting operations and enhance public safety.
