In a press release issued on 13th June, 2025, the government confirmed that the retired General died while in bandits’ captivity. The statement, signed by Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu, Honourable Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, conveyed the administration’s grief over the tragic incident.
The Commissioner stated, “The Katsina State Government, with a heavy heart and deep sense of loss, wishes to inform the general public of the tragic passing of Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar.”

According to the release, the State Government and various security agencies made relentless efforts to secure the General’s safe release, but these attempts were ultimately unsuccessful. “Despite the relentless and concerted efforts of the State Government and various Security Agencies to secure his safe release, the situation ended in this tragedy,” the statement read.

The government further disclosed the circumstances surrounding his death, noting that “the deceased Retired General died a natural death from complications of diabetes and hypertension.”
