US President Donald Trump has announced that Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a 10-day ceasefire set to begin on Thursday. However, there was no confirmation on whether Iran-backed Hezbollah is part of the agreement.
According to Trump, the temporary truce followed what he described as “excellent” discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. These talks reportedly came two days after peace discussions between Israel and Lebanon were held in Washington.
“These two Leaders have agreed that in order to achieve PEACE between their Countries, they will formally begin a 10 Day CEASEFIRE at 5 P.M. EST,” Trump said on his Truth Social platform.
Lebanon Ceasefire Efforts Amid Regional Tensions
He further stated that he has instructed US Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and top US military officer Dan Caine to engage both countries with the aim of securing a “Lasting PEACE.”
“It has been my Honor to solve 9 Wars across the World, and this will be my 10th, so let’s, GET IT DONE!” Trump added, noting his administration’s ongoing diplomatic involvement.
The development comes amid wider regional tensions, with Hezbollah having drawn Lebanon into the Middle East conflict by launching rocket attacks on Israel in support of Tehran.
Since the escalation, Israeli military operations in Lebanon have reportedly killed more than 2,000 people and displaced over one million, while ground troops have also advanced into the country’s south.
Trump also mentioned late Wednesday that a call between Aoun and Netanyahu was expected on Thursday, although there was no confirmation that the conversation had taken place.
