The Lagos State Police Command has inaugurated a new tactical unit, the “Command Sweepers Squad ” to address growing concerns over criminal activities in Ikorodu and restore public confidence in the area.
According to a press release issued by the Command Public Relations officer. SP Abimbola Adebisi, anipr, mipra on Monday 25th May 2026, special security outfit was launched under the directive of the Commissioner CP Tijani Fatai PSC, mnips
following repeated complaints from residents about a spike in crime across parts of Ikorodu and neighboring communities.
Announced in the statement, the squad is described as a temporary intervention force created to carry out targeted operations against crime and criminality in the axis.

It was further reported that the unit draws personnel from multiple tactical formations within the Lagos Police Command. These include the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Eko Strike Force, 2 PMF, 22 PMF, and 63 PMF. The officers are also working collaboratively alongside personnel from other sister security agencies and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) to combat criminality and ensure a coordinated response.
Police Deploy Sweepers Squad Across Ikorodu
The Command Sweepers Squad is strategically stationed in Ijede to allow for rapid deployment across Ikorodu and adjoining communities. Its operations will focus on identified black spots and criminal hideouts through intelligence-led raids, stop-and-search duties, and confidence-building patrols aimed at flushing out criminal elements.
To strengthen its capacity, the squad has been equipped with patrol vehicles and three Armoured Personnel Carriers recently donated to the Lagos State Police Command by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF).
CP Fatai assured residents that the operation would be conducted professionally and within the bounds of the law. He urged the public to remain vigilant and support the Command with timely and credible information.
