Colombian pop star Shakira and Nigerian Afrobeats singer Burna Boy are set to headline the official song performance at the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico City.
The duo will perform Dai Dai, the tournament’s official anthem, live at Estadio Azteca on 11 June, shortly before the opening match between Mexico and South Africa.
According to BBC Sport, FIFA described Dai Dai as a celebration of football’s power to unite people across cultures and continents in a statement announcing the performance. The title, an Italian expression meaning “let’s go” or “come on,” is expected to be a major highlight of the ceremony.
Other international acts will also feature at the event, including Colombian reggaeton artist J Balvin and South African singer-songwriter Tyla, who are billed for performances during the show that officially launches the month-long tournament.
World Cup Opening Ceremony Line-Up
FIFA said: “We wanted a song that captures the energy, passion and global spirit of the FIFA World Cup,” adding that “Shakira and Burna Boy bring together two of the world’s most influential musical voices.”
The opening ceremony in Mexico forms part of a wider multi-country celebration, with similar events planned across the tournament’s host nations.
In Canada, Michael Bublé and Alanis Morissette are set to headline pre-match celebrations ahead of Canada’s opening fixture against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto on 12 June.
In the United States, Katy Perry and rapper Future will also perform before the US team faces Paraguay at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
Shakira’s appearance marks another return to the World Cup stage, reinforcing her long-standing connection with football’s biggest tournament, following the global success of earlier anthems such as Waka Waka (This Time for Africa) and La La La.
She is also expected to feature at the World Cup final on 19 July, where she will co-headline a first-of-its-kind Super Bowl-style halftime show alongside Madonna and K-pop group BTS.
