Teachers and students during the POCACOV sensitation program on responsible choices at the police children school ikeja

The Lagos State Police Command has engaged about 400 students of the Police Children School, Ikeja, in a sensitisation programme focused on responsible decision-making and the dangers of cultism, drug abuse and other social vice.

The programme, organised by the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV) on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, was held under the theme, “Right Choices, Great Future.” It was designed to encourage the students to develop positive values, resist negative influences and make decisions that would support their future.

Speaking during the programme, a POCACOV member, Henry Bassey, urged the students to be responsible and law-abiding while maintaining open communication with their parents, teachers and other trusted adults. He particularly encouraged them to seek help whenever they encounter threats, pressure or troubling situations.

A mental health expert from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Dr Hezekiah Akinlade, also spoke to the students about the consequences of drug and substance abuse. He advised them to avoid harmful peer influence and make choices that would protect their physical and mental wellbeing.

The Lagos State POCACOV Coordinator, SP Olivia A. Ugochukwu, who represented the Commissioner of Police, CP Tijani Fatai, psc, mnips, urged the students to remain committed to their education and be careful about the company they keep.

She also advised them to respect their parents and teachers, obey the law and stay away from activities that could negatively affect their future.

The Command said the initiative reflects its preventive strategy of addressing cultism, drug abuse and other social vices through early intervention, awareness and positive value formation among young people.

The programme was part of ongoing efforts by the Lagos State Police Command to engage students and equip them with the knowledge needed to make responsible choices and avoid harmful social influences.
