The second edition of Cycling Kano will take place on December 12, 2026, in Kano State, with organisers adopting the theme “Water is Life” to promote clean water access, conservation and climate change awareness.

Cycling Africa, in partnership with the Kano State Government, announced the event following the success of its inaugural edition in 2025, which attracted more than 1,000 cyclists and enthusiasts from across Nigeria.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Cycling Africa President and Chief Executive Officer, Bamidele Adeleye, credited the support of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for helping establish the event as a platform for sports development, youth engagement and healthy living.

Adeleye said the 2026 edition would introduce more competitive categories, improved route safety measures and increased opportunities to discover emerging cycling talents.

He added that the event would go beyond competition by encouraging public conversations about water sustainability and the effects of climate change on communities.

According to him, the campaign aims to bring cyclists, residents and relevant organisations together to promote responsible water use and protect water resources for future generations.

The race will begin at the historic Emir’s Palace and pass through major routes in Kano before concluding with a celebration of the city’s cultural heritage.

Organisers also plan to establish water conservation awareness points along the route and collaborate with environmental and Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) organisations.

Registration details are expected to be made available through an online portal in November, ahead of the December event.

The competition is expected to draw cycling clubs, professional athletes, families and sports enthusiasts from Kano and other parts of the country, while promoting cycling as a sustainable transport option and a means of improving public health.

The maiden edition received sponsorship from the Kano State Government and Union Bank of Nigeria, with additional support from Flour Mills of Nigeria, FrieslandCampina WAMCO Nigeria and Cway.
