Tinubu Reshuffles Cabinet, Replaces Edun with Oyedele as Finance Minister

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor reshuffle within the Federal Executive Council, resulting in changes to key cabinet positions.

According to a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, two serving ministers, Mr. Wale Edun and Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa), are set to exit the cabinet, with their replacements already announced.

Mr. Edun, who previously served as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, has been directed to formally hand over to Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, who now assumes the role of Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Prior to this development, Oyedele served as Minister of State in the same ministry.

In another adjustment, Mr. Muttaqha Rabe Darma (PhD) has been nominated as ministerial nominee and designated to head the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

Cabinet Reshuffle Timeline and Handover Directives

The memo further instructed Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa to hand over responsibilities to the Minister of State within the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development.

It also directed that all handover and takeover procedures must be concluded on or before close of business on Thursday, 23rd April, 2026.

Explaining the rationale behind the changes, Senator Akume stated that the adjustments are intended to enhance coordination, improve synergy in governance, and strengthen service delivery under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He further noted that the President acted within his constitutional authority as provided under Sections 147 and 148 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended).

President Tinubu also expressed appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service to the nation and wished them success in their future endeavours, while reaffirming that the process of government reinvigoration will remain ongoing.
