Nollywood filmmaker and actor Stanley Amandi has been arrested in connection with an alleged coup plot aimed at violently overthrowing President Bola Tinubu’s administration, reports have revealed. The arrest followed investigations into a wider conspiracy involving some military officers accused of planning a forceful takeover of government.
Mr Amandi, a director and former chairperson of the Enugu State Chapter of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), was reportedly arrested in September 2025 alongside the military officers implicated in the plot. This development marks the first time the actor’s alleged involvement in the case has been made public.
According to information gathered, the actor was allegedly recruited by the coup plotters to serve as a propagandist, tasked with supporting the plot through strategic messaging and influence operations. The alleged conspirators were said to have been planning the operation over the course of last year.
Details Emerge on Alleged Coup Assassination Plans
Investigations further revealed that the plot involved plans to carry out targeted assassinations of top government officials as part of a violent takeover. Sources familiar with the matter disclosed that several senior political leaders were marked for elimination.
Government officials briefed on the alleged conspiracy told this newspaper last year that those targeted included President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, among others.
The case remains under investigation as security agencies continue to unravel the full scope of the alleged plot and the roles played by those involved.
